HDB - The Ultimate in Hunting Bullets

When fiing the .308 Win. 8,0 g. HDB / 47 gr. N 133 loading (instrumental velocity 1057 m/s) from my Steyr model SSG rifle at 100 meters, five shots regularly grouped about 20 mm. But because of its too devastive effect on smaller game such as fox or roedeer, I have scaled this loading down to an instrumental velocity of 980 m/s by using only 46,3 gr. Of N 133. The special advantage of that loading is a 100 percent loading density which results in an extraordinary uniform pressure development and initial velocity. Moreover, the propellant nearley complete burns up within the barrel so reducing the muzzle flash. Furthermore, the rifle recoils comparatively low resulting in obviously better scores. Compared to the standard 168 gr. HDB loading, the above 123 gr. variety will cause a little more bloodshots, but these will be evidently smaller than with any soft point construction.
